Howdy, howdy!! Tyler's choir class was invited to participate in a Manhattan Concert Production at Carnegie Hall this year. He's been working hard on preparing for this experience and looking forward to it for almost a year now!
We started out our trip on Thursday night after school by hopping a bus (one of the giant Twinkies they use for school trips lol), down to Denver to stay the night so we could get up SUPER early to head to the airport.
Our day started bright and early at 3:30 am, we grabbed our luggage and bussed over to DIA. Check-in went smoothly (especially considering we had a group of 36). We flew to NYC and were excited to see the city and Statue of Liberty as we were coming in for a landing. That wasn't to be though - it was so dang foggy, we couldn't see the ground until just a moment before we landed. No worries, we'll just make the best of this trip and hopefully catch a glimpse of the city-scape as we take off in a few days.
We gathered our luggage and waited for our shuttle transport, as the kiddos excitedly chattered on about how exciting this is (it really is, but it was magical hearing their excitement though). The bus driver said his bus was in the shop, so he wasn't familiar with this bus's features. The heat was cranked WAY up and on full blast, and half the knobs were broken. It was rather toasty HAHA
We got to our hotel and...our keys didn't work. After 3 sets of keys, they discovered the battery to our door lock was dead and that was why we couldn't get in our room. This is us waiting for security and maintenance to come to the rescue LOL
We finally gained access to our room and decided we were rather hungry (we had been eating only tiny snacks since we got up that morning, and it was already 2 pm (noon where we're used to, so not terrible, but still, we were hungry). Chick-Fil-A is RIGHT across the street from our hotel. BONUS! That's our hotel in the background.
We meandered around the area and found a few fun shops to go in and explore, and then we gathered back to the hotel to join another small group from our high school to go on a sunset cruise about the harbor and around the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was so pretty and most definitely worth it to join! We FaceTimed home so the rest of the family could see everything with us. I tried to get a panoramic shot of the skyline, however, the water was so choppy, it was hard to hold still. It looks like we're looking out the jaws of some weird sea creature LOL
Stay tuned for more adventures as we explore in between choir practices!
