This morning we woke up bright and early (after getting only 2 hours of sleep) so we could get on that final leg of the journey to our destination. Even though the sleep was minimal, it was enough to keep us going. We got to see the sunrise in Hawaii - beautiful!
We were able to get some breakfast there at the airport and enjoyed browsing around. They have a giant cultural garden inside the airport with a few different ponds. In each pond there are GIANT koi fish! There are ducks that like to swim up to you and beg for food too. They were disappointed in our lack of accommodations in that manner LOL (I'll find pics and post them soon, I just didn't get any on my phone) We made it to our gate and we're so close to Australia - SO EXCITED!!
On the plane, we were able to watch the ocean below, as well as cloud formations as we flew along our way. They tinted the windows until they were an ocean blue (it looked like we were flying through the water haha). I know they do this to help with fuel economy and efficiency, but it was weird looking out the windows and thinking it was dusk!
We crossed the equator (first time for any of us to be this side of it) and then, as we crossed the International Date Line (first time doing that too), Santa dropped off stockings for each of the kids - candies and 20 AUD for them to spend on vacation. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
We continued along the LONG flight (goodness, you guys, it was so long HAHA) and took naps as we were able to, to help pass the time.
We were so excited to FINALLY see land - our first glimpse of Australia!! (it was kinda fun watching our progress of the flight on the screens)
We arrived and made our way through customs and bio security checkpoint, and celebrated that we could get up and stretch and move around by...sitting around more LOL (we were so exhausted haha)
We celebrated even more when my Aussie sister, Natalie showed up! Oh, it's so good to see her again!
She brought us home to her house and fed us dinner, then took those that wanted to go, to a light show on the Yarra River. SO PRETTY! The crowds were a little crazy, but such a fun Christmas celebration!
Looks like your trip is going good. Have tons of fun!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! Who is your Aussi sis? Love the stockings. Amazing that you were still able to do Christmas with a lot of flights and not much room in luggage.
